Blinded by their intense love, a medical school student Oh Chang Min (Choi Jin Hyuk) marries a dietitian Oh Jin Hee (Song Ji Hyo) despite their family’s strong opposition. The couple struggles everyday as Chang Min has to quit his school and work as a salesman instead while Jin Hee suffers from depression after receiving bad treatments from her in-law. When realizing that marriage life is far from the happily ever after they’ve dreaming of, they decided to divorce. Six years later, the two meet again as both of them were assigned internship at the same hospital and have to work together at the emergency room for 3 months! Will they be able to work professionally? Will they hide their past from their co-workers?
- Choi Jin Hyuk as Oh Chang Min, a smart and handsome medical school student who dreams to be a good doctor. He is normally reliable and well-mannered, except toward Oh Jin Hee after their divorce.
- Song Ji Hyo as Oh Jin Hee, a hard working woman who managed to enroll to med school despite being bad at study.
- Lee Pil Mo as Gook Cheon Soo, Emergency Room’s tough team leader who dislike Oh Jin Hee’s clumsiness at first but later develops feeling toward her.
- Clara as Han Ah Reum, an intern who bluntly likes Oh Chang Min. She is famous for her beauty and ideal body.
This drama is full of funny moments as we see Oh Chang Min and Oh Jin Hee bickering, how they try hard to hide their past while working together side by side, and Oh Jin Hee’s cute clumsiness. The love lines (Gook Cheon Soo-Oh Jin Hee-Oh Chang Min-Clara) are also very interesting to watch. On the more serious note, we are offered the bitter sweet truth about love and marriage life. And it’s hard for the audience not to root for Oh Jin Hee in terms of love life as well as career (Oh Jin Hee is described as an underqualified woman who start to learn to be a doctor in such a late age).
Song Ji Hyo and Choi Jin Hyuk did great portrayal of their characters and their on-screen chemistry was good too. Although it’s kinda obvious that Oh Jin Hee and Oh Chang Min would end up together anyway, but their banters and romance are both hilarious and fluttering. Han Ah Reum seemed misplaced at first as her sexy yet classy style doesn’t go too well with emergency room, but after some episodes, she started to fit in and we can even see her as a doctor (the model-like one that is).
Overall, this medical romance drama is entertaining to watch with beautiful cinematography and fresh characters as well as actors. It offers light story with lots of humors. But do not expect to see patient with complex illness like in other medical drama, because “Emergency Couple” focusing more on the romance area, besides, it’s set in an Emergency Room!
